Designer Peter Saville and master typographer Brett Wickens worked with the photographer Trevor Key and Peter to develop something that was simple, fresh, black and white. Partly influenced by David Bailey’s work, it has since become a design classic.

“Trevor Key was one of the secrets of the world of music and magazine photography. Three decades of work include milestones of each era: the 1973 photograph for Mike Oldfield’s Tubular bells (in the mid-70’s he joined forces with graphic designer Jamie Reid, in a partnership that concocted artwork for the Sex Pistols), his 80’s artwork for most of the leading indie bands – New Order, Joy Division, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Ultravox, signature portraits of Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. The photographic technique he invented in the mid-1980s and labelled Dichromat, has been dissected and copied by photographers ever since. ...He won the often-baffled admiration of his colleagues. Just how had he achieved a particular technique? Trevor would simply stroke the side of his nose, smile and mumble something about ‘magic.’” - Sue Steward, The Guardian.
