Understory - PREORDER

Release date: 8th January 2027

Understory is a collection of ten mesmerizing solo piano pieces, recorded in London in March 2026. A sequel to his album Shelter, it finds Thomas Bartlett more settled, turning inward to wander beneath conscious thought. The felt-damped piano lends a richer, woodier, more organic sound as the music follows hidden paths through familiar and uncharted territory alike.

Thomas Bartlett, also known as Doveman, is an American pianist, producer and singer. Alongside four solo records as Doveman, he has released four albums with The Gloaming and duo recordings with Nico Muhly and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh. His production credits include Yoko Ono, St. Vincent, Norah Jones and Florence + the Machine, while his collaboration with Sufjan Stevens on “Mystery of Love” earned Academy Award and Grammy nominations
